This episode of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom follow three elephant matriarchs in the scorching desert of the Namib. It follows the challenges and he endurance of each of these elephant nomads. The Namib Desert in Southwest Africa is one of the oldest deserts in the world as well as one of the harshest places for elephants to live. The temperatures range from as low as 32 degrees fahrenheit to 102 degrees fahrenheit.

I watched the Rhino Nights episode again last night on Animal Planet and Saber mentioned an organization that i wanted to take a second to highlight today. The organization is called Save The Rhino Trustand their aim is to stop the horrendous slaughter of rhino, elephant and other wildlife.
Of course if you are eager to get involved there are many other organizations where you can pledge your financial support as well as volunteer your time abroad.
Wild Kingdom: Snow Leopard’s Lair
March 5, 2008 by Healthy Shana
Snow leopards hail from the mountain ranges of Central Asia. Snow leopards, though on the endangered species list, have been known to be elusive and have rarely been caught on film.
On the upcoming episode of Wild Kingdom, Journalist Nisar Malik and his wildlife cameraman will embark on a mission to uncover this reclusive animal in some of the most remote and desolate parts of the globe. The snow leopard has the great ability to blend in and camouflage with its rocky environment in the mountains of Asia. This episode tracks a snow leopard as it stalks its prey, a mountain boar.
This episode will premier on Animal Planet on March 9th at 7PM.
Wild Kingdom: Rhino Nights

So the Rhino Nights episode kicked off season six of the return of the Wild Kingdom series after about 30 or so years of being off television.
In the first episode, Saba Douglas-Hamilton tries to dispel the myth that rhinos are solitary and aggressive animals. She travels around trying to find the secret locations where black rhinos gather and call home.
It was very interesting to watch them walk all over Namibia in search of this large beast. You would think that because rhinos are so large that they would be easy to find, but this is not the case. As with the African Elephants, they travel great distances in search of food and water. Once rhinos are caught up with, due to their travels, you have to be real careful as to not sneak up on them or they will CHARGE!!!
The episode continues with Saba and her crew finally locating the secret place where the black rhinos live. She had a couple close calls during the episode where a very curious rhino and then when a family of lions approached her and they crew. Overall, I think that the Wild Kingdom series is a must watch for us animal lovers and just those interested in learning more about the habits of wildlife.

Wild Kingdom - Nostalgia

OK, since I wasn’t around in the 1960’s I wasn’t aware that to some people Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom isn’t a new show to all. Apparently the show first premiered back in 1963. The premise of the show was still the same, to take viewers around the world and show how animals lived in their natural habitat.
Wild Kingdom was indeed the pioneer of nature shows and could either be called the grandfather of all nature shows. The show was hosted by Marlin Perkins, and was on prime-time television until 1971 and was even nominated for a syndicated Emmy in 1972.
Watch classic video clips of the original show here and stay tuned on March 2nd @ 7PM ET/PT for the premier episodes.
