Man vs Food - Sylvia’s NYC
February 3, 2009 by Healthy Shana
In Travel Channel’s Man v. Food, host Adam Richman takes on some of the biggest, baddest food challenges in the country. He’ll go coast to coast to see if he’s man enough for America’s epic eats.
In this previous episode which aired on Travel Channel on Wednesday January 21st, he takes on the famous Sylvia’s Restaurant in NYC. I’ve known people to travel across country just to have an opportunity to eat the classic soul food that is served at this famous eatery located in Harlem, New York.
Sylvia’s Restaurant of Harlem (often called “Sylvia’s Soul Food” or just “Sylvia’s”) is a soul food restaurant which was founded back in 1962 by Sylvia Lester. The restaurant has since expanded to a much larger space at 328 Lenox Avenue (Lenox and 127th Street), and an adjacent building.
The restaurant attracts a clientele that ranges from Harlem locals to visiting celebrities. Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Caroline Kennedy, Al Sharpton and Magic Johnson are among those who have dined there. Watch below for the first clip as Adam talks about how he’s gonna take on some of the famous eateries of NYC and then below as he takes on the culinary delights of Sylvia’s.

Anthony Bourdain - No Reservations in Azores
January 26, 2009 by Healthy Shana
In the most recent episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, he visits Azores which is a Pourtegese Island about 3,900 km (2,400 mi) from the east coast of North America. The two westernmost Azorean islands (Flores and Corvo) actually lie on the North American plate and are only 1,925 km (1,200 mi) from St. John’s in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Azores’ most significant industries are tourism, cattle raising for milk and meat, and fishing.
While there he discusses the rise of ecotourism and samples gastronomic treats that make this cluster of islands so unique. Anthony Bourdain worked in kitchens with many generations of Azorean-Portuguese immigrants, and so decided it was time to find out more about their culture. Last week as well as tonight, Tony samples the gastronomic treats that make the Azores’ cuisine so interesting. Watch a clip from last weeks episode below.
New episodes of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations air Monday nights at 10PM ET, only on the Travel Channel http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows…

Bizarre Foods: Ethiopian Raw Meat
November 25, 2008 by Healthy Shana
A wide variety of food—British, Indian, French, Chinese and Italian—is available in Addis Ababa and, to a lesser extent, in smaller towns.
Elsewhere, you’ll mostly be confronted with local food, which generally goes down well with those who enjoy hot spice.
Kitfo (raw beef) is an Ethiopian delicacy and on the most recent episode of Bizarre Foods Andrew Zimmern tried some.
While traveling through Ethiopia, Andrew samples a cultural delicacy: raw meat dipped in lemon juice and spices. New episodes of Bizarre Foods air Tuesdays at 10 PM only on the Travel Channel. Visit http://travelchannel.com/bizarre
How to Eat A Spleen Sandwich
October 10, 2008 by Healthy Shana
On the September 16th episode of Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern the host heads to Sicily where he is greeted by a variety of odd foods, including sardine meatballs, artichoke ice cream, and cow spleen sandwiches.
The spleen is boiled in a vat of fat before being topped with cheese and tucked inside two slices of bread. I consider myself to be pretty adventurous when it comes to trying new foods, but a spleen sandwich, I’m not too sure!
How about you?
Watch the video and let me know, would you eat a spleen sandwich?
