Returning Series: “Time Warp”

April 14, 2009 by Healthy Shana

In TIME WARP, the invisible become visible as MIT scientist and engineer Jeff Lieberman reveals our world in astonishing and spectacular new ways, by radically changing the lens of time. Time bending and mind blowing, TIME WARP lets viewers see and appreciate things that are normally beyond our senses because they take place much too quickly or slowly.

By employing state of the art camera equipment and editing techniques, Lieberman demonstrates what really happens with every crack, fissure and crash. A punch to the face, the break of a matchstick—each frame will tell an extraordinary story of what really is happening.

In the video clip below we see tattooing in slow motion. Have some ink on you? See what’s going on when the tattoo needle enters your skin like you’ve never seen it before.

Returning Series: “Out of the Wild: The Alaska Experiment”

March 31, 2009 by Healthy Shana

Could you survive the cold, frigid wilderness that is Alaska? Well these nine daring people who abandoned civilization to test their ability to survive in one of the most physically and mentally tough environments in the world said that they could.

Over the course of their month-long expedition they had to forage for food, find shelter, and just try to survive with decreasing daylight and encounters with wild animals.

They weren’t being offered a million dollar prize or seven-figure job at the end of their journey. Their reward was the chance to have a life-changing experience — the potential to never see their lives the same way again…they just wanted to take on the challenge that is the Alaska Experiment.

Stay tuned as I introduce you to the 9 volunteers over the next couple weeks.

Watch a clip below that I found on youtube for a potential contestant. Hopefully she made it.

And if you missed anything from Season 1, check out the “controversial” Wise Family. I believe they had they most commentary than any other contestant from last season.

Treasure Quest 1.04 Recap “Return to the Legend”

February 13, 2009 by Healthy Shana

Treasure Quest (Discovery Channel)
Episode 1.04 “Return to the Legend”
Original Air Date: Thursday, February 5th 11:00 PM EST/PST

In the previous episode of Treasure Quest Team Odyssey is about to solve one of the biggest mysteries of a war ship that has been lost for almost 2 1/2 centuries. They are not sure if they have found it or not or if this just the remains of another lost ship.

In this episode they travel to the secret location of the supposedly lost battleship at the bottom of the English Channel. The location is called Site 25C and may be one of the greatest maritime site for the UK. The ship was about 125 feet long and had a crew of over 900 people. The historical records show that the ship called The Legend probably holds the vastest treasure they have ever seen, with about 40 bronze cannons and a royal crest, which is historical data that can be taken back to show proof. The operation is lead by Tom Dettweiler and Neil Cunningham Dobson.

There is a lot of work to be done and they need to first pull up conclusive evidence that this wreck is The Legend before they can disturb the site or begin any kind of shifting of the ocean floor. Watch the clip below as they try to determine if this is possibly The Legend.

Tonight on Treasure Quest Episode 1.05 “Turning Lead into Gold”

February 12, 2009 by Healthy Shana

Treasure Quest (Discovery Channel)
Episode 1.05 “Turning Lead into Gold”
Air Date: Thursday, February 12th 11:00 PM EST/PST

In his episode of Treasure Quest, which will air tonight, The Odyssey team wants to return to a site loaded with lead ingots. When the wreck was first discovered, it was quickly dismissed – it wasn’t their treasure-laden target. But since then, they’ve learned that the ingots could be an extremely valuable type of lead, called low-alpha lead, that fetches a huge premium in the specialized electronics industry.

On the way to the lead site, the team plans to stop at two other sites — a German U-Boat and a WWI era ship carrying a huge load of military supplies. While the team doesn’t expect treasure at these sites, the archaeologists can gather valuable forensic data. They find both sites heavily damaged by fishing trawlers and heavy weather is moving in.

The crew now only has one day to investigate what could be the cash prize of the expedition. Will the lead test to be truly low-alpha? If so, they’re looking at a multi-million dollar find that will see lead . . . turned into gold.

Watch below for a short clip of tonights episode.

Dangerous Encounters RECAP “Clash of the Giant Salamanders”

January 28, 2009 by Healthy Shana

Ever thought about how cute or harmless salamanders were? They are usually so small that most thumbs are bigger. But these pint sized sea creatures can sometimes pack a deadly punch. In this episode of National Geographic’s Dangerous Encounters, Brady is off on a journey to find the world’s largest salamanders — giants that can grow up to five feet long and weigh as much as 80 pounds! But which of these giants would be the King of the Salamanders?

To find out, Brady travels from the swamps of Florida to the jungles of Asia to capture and study the big four of the salamander world — a greater siren that breathes through gills, has two legs and can spin like a top; the two-toed amphiuma; the hellbender, with its flattened head and sagging skin the most hideous of the four; and a big, ferocious, battle-scarred beast called the denmaster. Brady checks their size, survival skills and overall sliminess to see which of these beasts is truly the King of the Salamanders. And one of his tests has never been done before on all these salamanders — he tastes their slime!

Brady successfully completes his mission, but not without paying a price! While in Japan, Brady is bitten underwater by a giant snapping turtle. Brady also encounters one of the largest salamanders on the planet — a five-foot giant with a head bigger than Brady’s! It beats all the other giants in size — but is size enough to make this creature the King of the Salamanders?

“A Taste for Slime” – Is Brady kissing this hellbender salamander to turn it into a lovely princess?

“Catching a Siren” – Don’t know what to do with your new-found siren salamander? Take a cue from Brady and put it in your shirt.

Man vs Wild RETURNS

January 27, 2009 by Healthy Shana

Bear returns to Discovery Channel for a new season of Man vs Wild where he will take is adventures all across the globe. He traverses the globe this season making stops in Transylvania, Turkey, Belize, the Yukon Peninsula and then through the Badlands of Oregon, before heading to the Dominican Republic during hurricane season.

Check out the episode descriptions below for this captivating season of Man vs Wild

MAN VS. WILD: “Belize”
Bear Grylls is dropped out of a helicopter at the top of a 700-foot waterfall in Belize. He battles his way down treacherous rocks but slips and is left hanging by his fingertips over a raging white-water river. In the rain-soaked jungle, he is forced to navigate swollen underground rivers and secret Mayan caves. Just as he seems to be out of harm’s way, darkness begins to fall, but he’s yet to find any fresh water. Can he get to water before dehydration kicks in?

MAN VS. WILD: “Yukon”

Bear adventures to one of the coldest – and most remote – places in North America: the Yukon. Following in the footsteps of the pioneers who ventured the area in search of gold over 100 years ago, Bear makes his way across frozen glacial wastelands, battling to stay afloat in treacherous white water and finding himself deep underground in an abandoned gold mine. It’s a tough terrain to get through and is filled with black bears, grizzlies and polar bears. The Yukon presents Bear with some of the most difficult challenges yet.

MAN VS. WILD: “Dominican Republic”

Bear Grylls parachutes into the Dominican Republic amidst the region’s harsh hurricane season. In an effort to stay hydrated, Bear swims to a deserted island only to find it completely devoid of fresh water. In scorching tropical heat, Bear makes a raft from storm debris to sail back to the mainland, tackling mosquito-infested swamps and raging white water rapids along the way. As a tropical storm swells the river, Bear scales a vertical canyon to escape the rising waters in a mad dash to find cover.

Its really tough to get actual video clips of the show but I’ve been able to get some great behind the scenes action of all that the crew has to go through.

Survivorman QUITS

January 26, 2009 by Healthy Shana

After 3 seasons it seems as though the ultimate survivor, Les Stroud, is calling it quits. According to Les, “You can only do seven days surviving without food a certain number of times a year. I’m pleased with what I have done, I’ve been copied around the world, but 25 times I’ve not eaten anything for a week while sleeping on rocks. I need to move on”.

Survivorman’s final season consisted of six episodes in which Stroud attempted to survive in the Arctic tundra, the wilds of Ontario, the Australian Outback, the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Colorado wilderness, and an island in Papua New Guinea – the episodes aired on Discovery Channel during November and December 2008.

Watch below as Les is promoting the new season on the Late Show.
