Mythbusters Moose vs Speeding Car

by Healthy Shana on June 2nd, 2008

mythbusters5_028_m.jpgThe final myth from the Mythbusters Alaska Special  involved the team tackling what to do if you were ever confronted by a moose while driving in Alaska. If you recall, the other 2 myths in the episode dealt with cabin fever and the dynamite dog.

So we have Grant, Kari and Tory taking on this assignment and the question that we are asking for this myth is is this: Is it safer to speed up or attempt to stop, when out of nowhere in Alaska, a moose steps out in front of your speeding car?

To test the myth or question, however you want to put it, they first build a moose out of rubber and cables. They then do the first “closed” in test where the hit the moose going around 45 miles per hour (mph). They then see what happens if they start to hit on the breaks when they are around 30 feet from the moose and then they also test what happens if they speed up at 30 feet from the moose.

Basically this myth was BUSTED and I could have told them so. NO ONE wants to EVER run into a moose…its like hitting a brick wall. You want to avoid contact with the moose at all costs!

Watch the video clip below as the Mythbusters test the dog vs dynamite myth.
