Expedition Guyana

expedition.jpg Expedition Guyana is a new show that is set to premier on May 18th from 9-11 PM ET/PT. Guyana is off the northern coast of South America and is a country that has a rich history and an even richer tropical rainforest.

The country, as well as, the forest is under constant threat from loggers and other industry that threatens to take over. The team that joins the series will live in the forests and the jungles and track the animals “from high up in the canopy to deep into the rivers”.

The expedition team searches for rare species and animals such as the anaconda, jaguar, giant anteaters, the Harpy Eagle and giant turtles. The goal of the show and the expedition is to make the strongest case possible for conservation of the land as well as these animals. Its a lost world out there and they are trying to save it!

Definately worth saving the animals, habitat and rain-forests of Guyana.
As a young man growing up in Guyana, there were Turkey Vultures in abundance. Due to poisoning of rats in the cane-fields and the Vultures eating their carcasses, the Vultures became extinct in the Guyanese Skies.
It is time that attention is paid to our Natural Wildlife and an attempt made to preserve it.

    Hey Tayoob
Thanks so much for sharing your info about growing up in Guyana. If I find out anymore info about the show I’ll be sure to post it.

  3. Just viewed the Disc program: “Lost World: Land of the Giants”. Brought back memories of my Indiana Jones-type trek in 1955 as a young adventurer & free-lance writer. Flew into what was then known as British Guiana to prospect for diamonds & jaguar hunt. Chartered a seaplane that flew me 200 miles into the interior & so began a fascinating adventure that appeared in one of my future books of my memoirs. Even “discovered ” & climbed behind Kaiteur Falls & stood on its summit. It was not even listed on my detailed topograpical map & didn’t believe the natives who only referred to it as the “great falls” ( see PASSPORT to DANGER: The Diary of an Adventure” that appears on my website ).

  5. The Discovery channel program,” Lost World: Land of the Giants”, brought back memories of my solo Indian Jones – type trek in 1955 as a young adventurer & free-lance writer.Flew into what was then known as British Guiana to prospect for diamonds & jaguar hunt.Chartered a seaplane that flew me 200 miles into the Interior, where I lived among native prospectors,”por-knockers” in the small settlement of Kurupung on the Kurupung River. An unforgettable & fascinating experience that appeared in one of my future books of my memoirs, “PASSPORT to DANGER:The Diary of An Adventurer”. ( see my website, Valorpress.com )
Even “discovered, & climbed behind Kaiteur Falls, & stood on its summit- a falls that was not even listed on my detailed topographical map.I didn’t believe the natives, who kept referring to it as the”great falls” until I could hear its roar the closer I approached on my climb. It was truly a “Lost World “over fifty years ago.

I saw the video on “Expedition Guyana” it is really amazing as i like nature and adventure. It is interesting for our biologist to be part on an expedition of this nature through our University on research. The rain forest is our natural beauty/GEM .I happens to work in the rainforest on my previous job and know what it’s like to wake uo with the breath of fresh air in the jungle.

I was born and lived in Guyana for 17 yrs not knowing the beauty that Guyana beholds but hopefully one day in will go back and enjoy the natural beauty.

It was amazing to see such rare species of wildlife in the video.

I thoroughly enjoyed “Expedition Guyana” hope to see it again on DVD. Brought back many memories…I’ve been to Kaiteur Falls, Imbamadai, Orenduik Falls…the Guyana rainforest is amazingly beautiful.

  10. Update, about two years ago i wrote about how beautiful Guyana is and that i never went to discover the jungles and rainforest etc. Well guess what i just came back from Guyana after spending 27 beautiful days shooting a feature film “The Festival Of Light” shot in NY USA and Guyana. Shot in Mazarunni Prizon and across the regions of Guyana, truly a magnificient place on the face of the earth. The americans and italians filmm crew were left in awe at the beauty of Guyana.

Its a trip i never forget, my daughter 17 yr old Melinda Shankar star of the film went to Kaiteur Falls with the film crew and said it was breadth taking and Guyana is truly a wonder in the world.

I will certainly make more trips to discover my native Guyana.
