Alter Eco fundraiser to benefit PHARMAKA

 Planet Green’s Alter Eco family will host a special fundraiser To celebrate the airing of Pharmaka’s Alter Eco episode and to raise funds for Pharmaka’s annual programming and operations budget.

The event will be held at a private residence in the Los Feliz area. Pharmaka is a 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to creating a creative and sustainable community in Downtown Los Angeles through cross cultural programming and contemporary art exhibitions.

Who is the better documentary filmmaker or makes better movies?

Morgan Spurlock has done Super Size Me and Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden and he has his own tv series 30 Days, which is on FX.

Moore has done Fahrenheit 9/11, Sicko, Bowling for Columbine, and other movies and he had his own tv series TV Nation.

Grizzly Man Diaries September Episode Listings

No man, or person for that matter has gone further than Timothy Tredwell, in their quest for environmental justice. Tredwell, better known to pop culture fanatics as the Grizzly Man is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict who devoted the last 13 summers of his life to living among the grizzlies in Alaska’s Katmai National Park while attempting to understand them better and credited his newly found passion for wildlife adventures for his recovery.

The Grizzly Man Diaries premiered on Friday, August 29th on Animal Planet at 9 PM. Check below for the upcoming episode listings of the series which captures his last weeks on earth.

Episode 1: In The Sanctuary Friday, August 29 9-9:30PM ET/PT
As the episode begins, Tredwell contemplates the dangerous situation at his new campsite. There are a lot of bears around and he was decide how he will spend his time interacting with all of them.

Episode 2: Aunt Melissa - Friday, August 29th 9:30-10PM ET/PT
Timothy comes across one of his most important study bears, Aunt Melissa. She is in a creek engaged in a fierce battle with another bear named Squiggle.

Episode 3: The Two Timmy’s - Friday, September 5th 9-9:30PM ET/PT
He introduces viewers to his assistant and kindred spirit, Timmy the Fox. The two Timothy’s have a history and he is pleased to spend time with Timmy’s family and his son Banjo.

Episode 4: The Salmon Run - Friday, August 5th 9:30-10PM ET/PT
Timothy witnesses a false salmon run, which is a spot in the creek where there isn’t enough water for the salmon to make it over the rocks. The false run is causing many salmon to die prematurely.

Episode 5: The Cycles - Friday, August 12th 9-9:30PM ET/PT
Its mating season at the grizzly sanctuary and Tredwell is going to be intimately exploring what this all entails.

Episode 6: Fight Day - Friday, September 12th 9:30-10PM ET/PT
Its late in the season and an unusually large number of bears are congregating around the back creek. Tredwell witnesses a fight between two alpha males as they fight for the affection of a female.

Yogurt Fights Gum Disease?

According to the September issue of Health Magazine yogurt can fight gum disease. The news article states that “Japanese researchers found that people who ate just 2 ounces of yogurt per day (about one-third of a serving) nearly halved their risks of advanced gum disease, which begins with gingivitis, or inflammation around the gums.”

Architecture School - Sundance Channel

Experience the journey of architecture students as they create buildings in the Sundance Channel original series ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL.

The six-part series premiered on the channel on August 20th and comes from co-creators Michael Selditch and Stan Bertheaud. The series follows a group of students at Tulane University’s prestigious School of Architecture in New Orleans.

The premise of the show is different from much of the designs shows that we may be familiar with such as HGTV Design Star. These are students so there are no eliminations, however, students submit competing designs for an affordable home in Katrina-battered New Orleans.

The stakes are high as the winning model will be built during the course of the school year and put up for sale, enabling one fledgling architect to begin his or her career with a high-profile splash.

Watch a 1-minute clip from episode 1 of the series where the students are beginning thier first design where they are designing thier 3rd home for residents of New Orleans. Watch as New Orleans’ residents speak about the struggles they face with obtaining a new home.

US Olympic Athletes Push Environmental Causes

Olympic athletes don’t have one track minds. They don’t train for hours on end just to showcase their skills, if only for a matter of seconds, for the chance of winning a gold medal once every 4 years. They are also health conscious and pushing environmental issues to their millions of fans across the globe.

In a recent article in Environmental Magazine by Britta Belli, such issues are being highlighted like U.S. Olympic swimmer Tara Kirk’s opposition against shark finning which has been captured in a recent commercial by WildAid.

This isn’t the only commercial and Tara isn’t the only Olympian speaking. WildAids campaign features 15 athletes in their “World Champions for Wildlife” Campaign, including American swimmers Kirk and Amanda Beard, Ethiopian world marathon winner Haile Gebrselassie and Chinese athletes like Houston Rockets basketball star Yao Ming, that country’s most famous export (and the sport’s tallest player at 7 feet, 6 inches).
